Grand Mosque
Grand MosqueGrand Mosque is among the largest mosques in China. The present buildings only date back to the middle of the 18th century, although the mosque might have been established several hundred years earlier. The mosque is built in a Chinese architectural style with most of the grounds taken up by gardens. Still an active place of worship, the mosque holds several prayer services each day.
The courtyard of the mosque can be visited, but only Muslims may enter the prayer hall.
Great Mosque is a five-minute walk from the Drum Tower: go under the arch, then take the second tiny lane leading left to a small side street. From here the mosque is a few steps to the right past a gauntlet of souvenir shops.
