The Olympic Park

The Olympic Park was built for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympic Games. Home to the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube in addition to other venues used for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. There are occasional trees marking the long extending paved walkways and a canal that runs through the park. Lights go up from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Accessible by public transportation. It's beautiful at night.

Now that the olympics is over, in the evenings the water cube has a really good water & light show played to a live orchestra. It's sort of like the Bellagio show in vegas but much more intense, well worth seeing.

The National Stadium, affectionately known as Bird’s Nest, is situated in Olympic Green Village, Chaoyang District, Beijing. It was designed as the main stadium of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Olympic events of track and field, football, gavelock, weight throw and discus were held there. Since October, 2008, after the Olympics ended, the National Stadium has been opened as a tourist attraction. Now, it’s the center of international or domestic sports competition and recreation activities.

The design of this large stadium was accomplished together by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron and Chinese architect Li Xinggang and the others. The designers didn’t do any redundant disposals to the look of the stadium. They just exposed the steel structures entirely and let them become the most natural appearance. The form of the stadium looks like a big nest which embraces and nurses human beings. Also it looks rather like a cradle bearing human beings’ hope of the future.

Water Cube, the landmark building of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, is located inside the Beijing Olympic Green. It is axially related to the National Stadium on the north part of Beijing Central Axis and reinforces the historical and cultural features of Beijing city. The National Aquatics Center was the venue for swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water-polo final during the Olympic Games. The total seating capacity is 17,000, including 6,000 permanent and 11,000 temporary for Games.
