As a famous hill in Jinan, the Thousand Buddha Hill, together with the Daming Lake and the Baotu Springs are the three biggest scenic spots.

The Thousand Buddha Hill was called the Lishan Hill and the Shungengshan Hill in ancient times. Allegedly, the Shun emperor once led the common people to farm on the hill in Yao and Shun times, there were a temple of Shun emperor on the hill and the Shun well in the city.

The Buddhist disciples started to carve Buddha on the south of the Thousand Buddha Hill - the Thousand Buddha Wall from 581 to 600. To the Zhenguang Year of Tang Dynasty, there were more than 100 Buddha statues, from then on people called this hill "the Thousand Buddha Hill" and gradually this place became the Buddhism resort in Jinan.

The elevation of the Thousand Buddha Hill is 285 meters and many scenic spots are distributed from the foot to the top of the hill. From the Xipan Road circling up to the hill, there are E Ying Pond, Tang Huai Pavilion and four sides' Pavilion and then the "Qiyan Jiudian" memorial archway.

Looking towards north under the memorial archway, you will appreciate the Lying Cattle Hill, the Huabuzhu Hill, the Magpie Hill, the Biao Hill, the Phoenix Hill, the Medicine Hill, the north Ma Anshan Hill, the Su Hill and the Kuang Hill, these nine hills have different shapes with cloud and mist.

After the poet in Tang Dynasty named Lihe traveled the Thousand Buddha Hill, he once wrote a verse "look Qizhou from far are nine mist, seawater flow into a deep cup swift." The seawater in the verse referred to the Bohai Sea which can be seen from distance.

If you go on climbing up to the top, you can ascend the Lansheng Pavilion, standing in the pavilion, you can overlook the whole Jinan city and take in the scenery of the Yellow River and the Daming Lake at a glance.

What's worth mentioning is that among multitudinous wall Buddha scriptures under the Thousand Buddha Wall, the Qianlou Cave, the Dragon Spring Cave and the Happiest Cave are more well-known, the wall scriptures inside the cave and the landscapes outside are worth viewing.

In fact, including the wall scriptures, there are many scenic spots in the Thousand Buddha Hill. Even if you are not a Buddhist, if you go there to visit, you cannot help praising the places of interests and beautiful landscapes on the whole hill.
